Parent Support Volunteer Program
Because no one should walk the journey alone.
At Horizon Over the Spectrum, we believe in the power of shared experience. Our Parent Support Volunteer Program connects caregivers of children newly diagnosed with autism with seasoned parents who have walked a similar path.
This is not a clinical service, but rather a heart-led connection rooted in empathy, inclusion, and empowerment—especially for Black and underserved communities navigating autism diagnoses.
Interested in becoming a Parent Support Volunteer?
We’re currently accepting volunteers who are ready to make a difference, one family at a time. Have questions? Please email Dr. Simbi Animashaun at info@horizonsoverthespectrum.com. Together, we’re building a network of hope, healing, and strength.
Through this peer-to-peer support model, volunteers provide:

Compassionate Listening
Offer a nonjudgmental, understanding ear to parents navigating a new autism diagnosis. Sometimes, simply being heard is the greatest gift you can give.
Personal Insight
Share your lived wisdom as a parent or caregiver. Whether it’s navigating IEPs, meltdowns, or joyful milestones, your experiences can light someone else’s path.
Community Bridge Builder
Help caregivers transition from isolation to a sense of belonging by introducing them to local autism-friendly spaces, events, and supportive communities.
Emotional Encouragement
Share affirming messages and relatable experiences that reassure fellow parents they’re not alone. Uplift them through the highs and lows of the journey.
Guidance to Trusted Resources
Help families avoid information overload by connecting them to reliable organizations, services, and community tools you’ve personally found helpful.
Support With First Steps
Assist new families with practical tips—from scheduling evaluations to understanding the basics of sensory needs. Make those first steps feel a little less overwhelming.
